Renal Impairment Following Total Joint Arthroplasty: Who Is at Risk?
S. Mehdi Jafari; Ronald Huang; Orhan Bican; Javad Parvizi; William J. HozackAnkle Elbow Hip Knee Shoulder Wrist
Postoperative renal impairment, including acute renal injury (ARI) and acute renal failure (ARF) is recognized as a serious complication of major surgical interventions which leads to increased morbidity and mortality. The incidence and the associated risk factors of acute renal impairment after total joint arthroplasty (TJA) are not well known. Understanding the associated risk factors of this complication is an important step in implementing strategies that can minimize it. The main objective of our study was to identify the major risk factors for renal impairment after TJA.
