Prevalence of Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Management in Patient Undergoing Total Joint Arthroplasty

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is apnea and hypoxia during sleep with daytime somnolence. Prevalence is 1% to 4% in the general population. OSA may be a risk factor for perioperative complications after total joint arthroplasty (TJA). Our goals are to determine the prevalence of OSA in TJA patients, and the safety and effectiveness of intrathecal narcotic (IN) anesthesia in these patients.
