Is The Blood Supply to The Femoral Head At Risk Following Resurfacing Arthroplasty
Christopher Dy; Philip C. Noble; Matthew Thompson; Molly UsreyHip
The majority of the blood supply to the femoral head arrives via nutrient foramina at the head-neck junction. This raises concerns that hip resurfacing may lead to vascular injury, contributing to osteonecrosis and femoral neck fracture. The current study was performed to test the hypothesis that reaming could result in ablation of a substantial proportion of the foramina supplying the femoral head.
