Gait Symmetry: Hip Resurfacing vs Total Hip Arthroplasty
Robin Queen, PhD Alicia N. Abbey, BS, ATC Vani Sabesan, MD Diane Covington, PA-C Thomas P. Vail, MD Michael P. Bolognesi, MDHip
Proponents of large femoral head hip arthroplasty (THA) and hip resurfacing arthroplasty (HRA) have touted the potential for restoration of more normal hip kinematics. Three-dimensional kinematics and kinetics have quantified gait after THA, however, scant data exists examining changes after large head THA or HRA. We evaluated postoperative gait in these 2 populations 1+ years after surgery, hypothesizing that subjects would show symmetric gait and no procedure based differences.
