Can Intra-operative Hip Motion Tests Reliably Predict Hip Function During Normal Activities?

Matthew Thompson; Molly Usrey; Philip C. Noble
Hip

During THR, most surgeons perform some type of intra-operative test to confirm that the hip can perform normal functional activities without impingement or dislocation. Nonetheless, hip replacements continue to impinge and dislocate, suggesting that intraoperative manoeuvres are not predictive of outcome. In this study we compare the ability of different kinematic manoeuvres to predict whether the hip has adequate joint motion to perform functional activities known to cause impingement following THR.
