Are Radiographic Parameters and Prosthesis Size Associated with Hip Resurfacing Failure?

Metal-on-metal total hip resurfacing arthroplasty is a technically difficult procedure. Recent studies have suggested that there is a learning curve associated with this procedure with an increased risk for failures such as femoral neck fractures early in this curve. Other studies have assessed radiographic parameters and suggested that implant positioning is also predictive of prosthesis survival. The purpose of this study was 2-fold: (1) to assess whether implant positioning changed with surgeon experience; and (2) to further evaluate the role of this positioning and component sizing on implant longevity.
