Wrist replacement surgery

The purpose of the surgery is to improve the function of the hand and make the wrist pain-free and mobile. Everyday tasks will be easier to do with an improved, stronger grip.

The surgery is carried out under anaesthesia; the limb’s nerves are numbed via the collarbone’s notch or the armpit. Sedation is not usually required, as only the operated limb is numbed. The surgery takes one and a half to two hours.

Artificial wrist joints are made of metal and plastic. Steel is used as the sliding surface. The orthopaedist will select the model of the joint based on the patient’s individual factors, such as their general condition, bone quality, anatomical factors and the strain expected on the joint. Coxa Hospital for Joint Replacement uses joints that have been scientifically proven to be of high quality.
