Introduction: The incidence of significant post-operative pain and dysfunction has only relatively recently been fully appreciated, with dissatisfaction rates as high as 30% noted at eighteen months post-operatively. Clinical observation suggests significant contributions of pre-existing patient factors are frequently ignored or not quantified.
